Module Synopsis:
This module introduces the fundamentals of engineering materials which includes the structure of materials, mechanical and physical properties of materials, failure of materials, microstructure analysis, and phase diagram, strengthening of metal alloys by heat treatment, the applications and current developments of polymer, ceramics, composites and advanced materials.
Module Course Outcome:
By the end of semester, students should be able to:
CO 1: Identify and analyze the structure of materials.
CO 2: Distinguishthe physical and mechanical properties, and applications of materials.
CO 3: Explain the failure and strengthening mechanism of materials.
C04: Examine and analyze the microstructure of metal alloys, phase diagram and heat treatment processes
